Kahoot!Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 5
***this is a FLEX course*** In this course students will learn how to clap out syllables in order to categorize a word as a 1, 2, 3, or 4 syllable word. 1. Students will be introduced to syllables through a short video. The video will introduce 1-4 syllables and word examples. I will play bits of the video at a time for the students in the classroom forum. Students will comment how many syllables each word has. 2. After the video, we will review an anchor chart featuring Alli the syllable-eating Alligator and practice "chomping" on the syllables like Alli does. Students will learn all about Alli the syllable-eating alligator and how she helps us learn syllables in fun animations 3. Next, we will work on an object sort. I will have a variety of objects and, as a class, we will sort the objects into 1-4 syllable categories. I will post pictures of objects in the forum and students will comment one how many syllables the word has. 4. Students will work together in a collaborative interactive google slides to sort pictures as well. I will ask students to look around the room their in and see if they can find any objects that fit into those categories. They will have the opportunity to send me pictures to be uploaded into the classroom for their peers to comment on. 5. We will also work on a popcorn picture sort. I will have pictures on a card shaped like a piece of popcorn and we will sort them into "popcorn buckets" based on the number of syllables. This will be done in the classroom through a video led by me as well as an interactive google presentation. 6. We will work on another syllable counting activity where I show the students a picture card and we stretch out the word described by the picture using manipulatives. In the last week of class, we will compete in a friendly Kahoot! competition to test our syllable knowledge!
