Do you struggle with math homework? Do you understand concepts in class and then get home and can't remember how to complete homework? Then this is the on-going class for you. This ongoing subscription class will meet once a week with a different math concept each week. Each meeting will last 30 minutes and cover a different concept. Classes will be taught using common core, models and standard algorithm strategies. Lessons will be conducted using an I do, We do, You do strategy. The teacher will complete an example, the group will do an example together and then students will attempt on their own. Students will complete 3-5 problems during the class time where the teacher will assist with struggles. Topics will be as follows for each week: New Section Beginning Week 1 - Place Value up to 1,000,000- identify numbers, identify the value of the different digits using tables and base ten blocks Week 2 - Writing numbers in expanded form and standard form. Expanded form numbers will be written with and without exponents depending on ability level of group present. Week 3 - Basic multiplication up to 3 digit by 3 digit using arrays, repeated addition and standard algorithm. Week 4-10/12 Division up to 3 digit divided by 2 digit using arrays, repeated subtraction and standard algorithm Week 5- 10/19 Area and Perimeter using formulas for squares, rectangles, and triangles- Using Whole Numbers Week 6- 10/26 Area and Perimeter for 3D shapes involving squares, rectangles and triangles- taught using deconstruction of the shapes Week 7- 11/2 Fractions- Mixed numbers and Improper fractions. Using number lines, models and standard algorithm Week 8- 11/9 Fractions- Convert fractions to simplest terms using models, and greatest common factors Week 9- 11/16 Adding like and unlike fractions including mixed numbers. We will use number lines, models and the standard algorithm Week 10- 11/23 Subtraction like and unlike fractions. All lessons will be independent and do not build from week to week. Level of problems will be determined by the ability levels with the group during the current week. Each class will have question time at the beginning and end for students to express their struggles with the weekly topic. This time will allow the teacher to assess students level of ability for that class session.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their math confidence by learning different strategies to understand math concepts.

Now offering private tutoring in all subjects through 1 on 1 30 minute ongoing sessions. Also available for one time homework help just send me a message to get it set up. 23 Years! I have been teaching 3-5th grade for 21 years and 8th grade science for the last three years. I am passionate about connecting the real world to what students are learning in the classroom with their interests and hobbies. I teach classes that reinforce skills in math through games and discussions, book clubs for those lovers of books, hands on inquiry lessons in science and real world experiences. Math games focus on fractions, multiplication and division. Book clubs will involve outside reading, in depth discussions during our class time, and hands on projects to make connections. Real world experience classes focusing on creating a budget for a vacation, and creating schedules to allow for time management. I am the teacher that relates your learning to your life. My three top interests outside of school are Disney, long distance running and Harry Potter. I have been long distance running for 15 years and of course bringing my two interests together I run at Disney! I can't wait to get to know your student.
