What's included

33 live meetings
13 hrs 45 mins in-class hours
Homework
2-4 hours per week. I will go over the concepts of each lesson, however, we will not be able to read all of the words and stories for each lesson in class. Students will need to review the lesson materials found in the All About Reading Student Packet and readers, which includes phonogram and word card review, reading activity pages, online games, and reading the stories. I suggest reviewing for 10 - 20 minutes on the days we do not meet. Your time with your student may look like this: practice phonograms and word cards, read the words, phrases, and sentences located in the student activity book for the previous lesson (or with the digital word and phrase cards I provide), practice the sentences on the student activity book page or read a story from the reader. AAR suggests not spending more than 20 minutes per learning session. You can also use the digital resources I provide for additional short practice time during the day (or while away from home) as needed.
Certificate of Completion
There is a certificate at the back of the Student Activity Book.

Class Experience

Join us as we have fun learning to read with the All About Reading Program!

This course will work through Level 1 of All About Reading (AAR). Level 1 students will need to have some experience with the alphabet. Students do not need to know all of the letters but they should be able to identify most of them. For example: A says /a/ (short a), C says /k/, etc. (If they still forget a few that's fine. We will be practicing them as we learn to read).

This class works through the Level 1 All About Reading program. In this course, we will focus on the concept lessons rather than the story lessons. During the week the parent/guardian(s) will need to practice the concept lesson and complete the story lesson.

**This is a once-a-week class. It can be used as a supplement to your AAR home program or my twice-a-week class (2024-2025 is not on the same schedule as the twice-a-week class).***

Classes will begin with a phonogram (letter) review. Then we will practice new words and phrases, or sometimes read a story. Lesson activities may include additional stories, games, videos, and songs. Students will be practicing: Letter sounds, Blending, Decoding, Sight Words (Leap Words), Rhyming, and Comprehension as they work through the AAR lessons.

We will not complete all of the AAR lesson material during class, but we will touch on each of these areas: phonograms, word cards, fluency words/phrases, and lesson concepts. All About Reading recommends 20 minute lessons and most lessons take a couple of days to complete. Your child should know the new phonogram by the end of class and be able to apply it to words. Please practice the phonograms, words, phrases, and activities found in the workbook between classes to reinforce the lesson.

2024-2025 Schedule
First class the week of October 14
*****NO CLASS the WEEKS of <November 18 & 25> ****
****TWO WEEK WINTER BREAK <Dec 23-Jan 5>*****
****** BREAK ~ NO CLASS the week of <April 7> ***
Last Class the week of June 30

**** During Breaks there is a limited number of private lessons available. Please plan ahead if you would like your student to take a private lesson during a break. *****

On days we are not in class, please spend about 15-20 minutes reviewing the AAR lesson materials. The student packet includes phonograms, words to practice, pages to practice reading, and game activity pages. I suggest using the activities with your student on days we do not meet to reinforce the lesson. Additionally, please read the stories with your child after we have completed them in class. During most story lessons we will read one of the lesson stories. Please have your learner read the second story and reread the story we practiced in class. Rereading stories is a great way to practice fluency.

*Most of our activities will be done online. Occasionally, we will work on activity pages from the activity book. Activities may need to be cut out to play. (A few activities need to be glued or stapled). You can cut out the activities before class if you would like your student to use their own during class. I will show the activities through my desk camera or Google Drive so it is not required to cut these out before class.

**Please have your student bring their reader on story days***

Students will need to have purchased their own copy of the curriculum before class. Required materials include: the student packet and the 3 readers. Here is a link to the curriculum: https://www.allaboutlearningpress.com/all-about-reading-level-1/.

You may be able to find materials on Ebay or Rainbow Resource Center (I suggest ordering the color edition if you order from someplace other than AAR). https://www.rainbowresource.com/category.jhtm?cid=2392

If you have questions about All About Reading or need help selecting a level please message me.

***This class requires a minimum of 3 students. If the minimum is not met, the students can choose private lessons ($29 per lesson) or a small group class ($50 per week).

Pencils, coloring options (markers, crayons, pencils), scissors, and glue will be used in some activities.

To better hear student pronunciation, I recommend (but do not require) that students have a headset with a microphone or a microphone in class. Here are a couple of options:

Hello!
My name is Kate. I am a homeschool mom, small farm owner, herbalist, gluten-free baker, online teacher, and lover of books. I have taught for over 20 years: home school, alternative education, small co-ops, and as a substitute in public schools. Additionally, I have taught English as a Second Language online with VIPKid and Cambly for over 6 years. It has been amazing meeting and working with students around the world. I love getting to know each of my students and helping them learn new things in a fun way.

All About Reading: 20 years ago, when I first began teaching reading, I was trained in the Spaulding reading method. Spaulding is based on Orton-Gillingham and is similar to the All About Reading Program. When I was introduced to All About Reading I was hooked. All About Reading provided the sequential layout that I loved from Spaulding in an easier layout. I also loved the games that provided a multi-sensory experience for my students. I love to use games when I am teaching. I think learning should be enjoyable. In my reading classes, we turn the All About Reading program into fun online games.

Thank you and I look forward to seeing your child in my class.

(A little about my family and philosophy: I have two homeschool graduates and two young learners. Throughout our homeschool journey, we learned, we grew, we did better next time, and we found success. I believe it is important to meet children where they are. To strengthen their weaknesses and support their strengths while having fun and encouraging them to be who they were meant to be. )
