Beginner Level
Students will learn how to put individual sounds into words. Especially groups of two or more consonants which often pose issues for new readers. My class begins with a warm up activity to ensure students can distinguish each sound in a word. Then students will move onto the main lesson of blending sounds together. The main lesson will be done through a series of games, power points and interactive letter tiles. My teaching style is informed by the Barton method which uses self discovery as the main method to correct mistakes. Prompting the students to check and correct themselves, with instructor guidance after an attempt is made by the student. The core of my teaching style is understanding what support each student needs and how I can best provide it.
