Class Experience

Join me as we plunge the depths of the sea and meet fish and aquatic invertebrates. In this live one-time online class, we'll use films, photos, and more to learn about such animals as coral, sponges, jellyfish, sharks, hermit crabs, and blobfish. We will connect the bizarre undersea world of intense pressure and total darkness to our everyday lives as we consider the concepts of hardness, softness, and texture. We move around some in this class as we pretend to first swim across the surface of the water and then dive down into one of the deepest trenches in the world, so be sure to give your learner plenty of space for creative movement.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
[Pronouns: they/he] My goal as an educator is to inspire curiosity, compassion, and creativity in the next generation of global citizens. I have 20 years of experience in various educational settings, including a daycare, two children's museums, a storyteller's stage, two university tutoring centers, and online as a teacher of English as a second language. I hold a BA in creative writing with a minor in studio arts from Metropolitan State University (St. Paul).

I offer classes that embody my passions: travel, storytelling, history, literature, science, art, and early-childhood education. My teaching style is marked by patience, gentleness, and humor—less Elmo, more Mister Rogers. I believe it is essential for children to learn the importance of asking "why." My greatest asset as a teacher is adapting quickly to the needs and skills of my students.

Beyond teaching, i am a published essayist and poet. I currently reside in Minneapolis. My interests include linguistics, travel, volunteering, heraldry, graphic design, video games, and caring for my pet lovebird, Buddy.
