This class will be instructed through scaffolded modeling, interactive whiteboard practice and discussion. First we will briefly review the basics of algebra including vocabulary, absolute value, order of operations, distributive property and evaluating algebraic expressions. Next, I will review and demonstrate how to solve one-step and two-step equations. Students will practice problems after I have guided them through one or two together. We will then begin solving systems of equations and inequalities and we will look at various strategies for these types of problems. Students will get a chance to work with these problems and if appropriate, graph the solutions on number lines. This class will also look at linear equations and work with slope and two of the most common formulas used with slope.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
I have been teaching for over 25 years in a wonderful school in Pennsylvania. I am passionate about engaging learners in fun, collaborative, exciting learning adventures. In my classroom I use a variety of teaching strategies to keep kids motivated and on task and I intend to have that same variety in my Outschool lessons as well. I will teach language arts and math classes and social studies classes with a special emphasis on the 50 states. Here is a fun fact about me: my brother and I were born on the same day ten years apart and my two daughters were born on the same day five years apart. I guess cool birthday dates run in our family!
