This is a summer review for Algebra 1. I can assess the students needs and gaps from Algebra 1 and we can focus on those topics in sessions. 2 sessions per week is recommended.

Some Algebra topics that can be covered are: Simplifying expressions including the distributive property; linear equations and graphing; multiplying and factoring equations (including greatest common factor), solving equations, properties of quadratic functions and their graphs, the quadratic formula.

I work with worksheets and sample problems, and the whiteboard feature on Zoom. I can work a problem with the student and if I determine an area that needs to be reviewed, I stop and review that topic, making sure the student is understanding the material.

I ask leading questions such as the next step, or for the student to work independently and tell me their answer or what to write on the zoom board next.

I love to encourage students in their successes!

I love teaching about math and physics. I have a degree in engineering, but I have always enjoyed math and tutoring. I tutored math and physics in college and I am getting back into it after working as a Professional Engineer and then raising kids for a bit.

I have a few mindsets I approach teaching and tutoring with. The first is that everyone starts somewhere. Students struggle in different areas, and even with different topics of math, while they may excel in others. I always encourage my students that they can learn hard subjects and that we can work together to make them make sense. I also like to get to know a students learning style and teach based on their individual style. I can teach concepts from different perspectives to help a student understand well. I like to ask leading questions and guide a student through problem solving until they are comfortable working problems independently.

Even though this is Outschool, I firmly believe the best path to mastery of math and physics is two-fold: understanding the physical or visual concept, as well as practice. Practice will mean working and solving problems.

Some of my hobbies are kayaking, fishing, reading and gardening. I have two daughters and two kitties.
