Algebra 1 Summer Camp | Variables, Expressions, and Solving Linear Equations
Class experience
US Grade 8 - 9
Beginner Level
Aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
In this class, we will concentrate on Solving Linear Equations in One Variable, that includes Absolute Value Equations. We will make sure to start with some pre-requisites needed to succeed. Who can join? Everyone, from a beginner wanting a head start into Algebra 1 to an experienced student that needs additional practice before moving on to their next math class. Classes are 45-55min long, but there might be one or two days where the class will be 60min. Students will be informed at least...

I am a certified teacher who was a High School teacher for 13 years, a college professor for 6 years, and am currently an online high school mathematics teacher teaching Algebra 2 Saxon, Algebra 2 AoPS and Precalculus AoPS. I have a Master’s in Mathematics Science and a second Master’s in Mathematics Education.
Homework Offered
Additional practice question with answers will be provided. These do not have to be turned-in, they are for students to continue to practice.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
Pre-requisites will be reviewed at the start of the class.
Paper, pencil, basic calculator. During optional office hours, bring your ti-84 to learn how to use it.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will have the opportunity to showcase their work during optional office hours using Whiteboard.fi: • Whiteboard.fi is used to engage student in class with an interactive whiteboard tool. • Whiteboard.fi is designed to be used the way a teacher would use a small, physical whiteboard in a brick & mortar classroom. • Every student gets their individual whiteboard that only the teacher can see, all students can see the teacher's whiteboard. • The teacher always monitors the students whiteboard, access will be provided by teacher, there will be no need to create an account or enter personal information. • A question is uploaded to Whiteboard.fi ahead of class time and given to the students to brain storm, answer the question, then, only for those that volunteer, the teacher would show their whiteboard to the rest of the class. • The difference with Kahoot, is that in Kahoot questions are multiple choice and in Whiteboard.fi questions are open ended • Whiteboard.fi does not collect any student data, information added to the whiteboard isn't shared with third parties. Whiteboard.fi is a Kahoot! company. ***This class has a minimum of 5 students. If not met, the class will be cancelled. If you still want your learner to review this summer, I highly encourage you register for my "1-1 Math Tutoring" class.***
All information and materials will be in the classroom from Open Educational Resources such as Big Ideas Math, OpenStax, and LibreTexts.
