In this class, students will learn about the life of Nelson Mandela and how he committed his life to fighting apartheid in order to advance the lives of black people in South Africa. We'll also take a virtual visit to Robben Island via Google Earth.

In this class, students will learn about the life of one of Africa's freedom fighters and global icon, Nelson Mandela. The class will be delivered through a lecture styled presentation with opportunities given for students to ask questions and share their thoughts throughout the lesson. We will learn about his childhood, career and his active involvement with the African National Congress (ANC) and its activities. I have a BA and MPhil in Sociology. I have taken courses in African history. I understand the importance researching the subject from reputable sources before creating and teaching the lesson in class.

This class will discuss apartheid and some events associated with it. We will also discuss Mandela’s imprisonment and some of the harsh conditions he and other political prisoners were subjected to while serving their terms.
