African Folktales & Myths Story Time: The Boastful Caterpillar
In this class children will participate in a read aloud of an African Folktale Story about a boastful caterpillar who tricks everyone. They will have the opportunity to choral read an African Proverb and recite a children's poem.

Come listen to a great African Folktale passed down from generations. The students will engage in a story time session, and hear the tale about a boastful caterpillar who tricks everyone into believing he is bigger than he really is. The students will listen to the story and have an opportunity to ask questions at the end. They will have a time of poetry where they will recite "Knoxville, Tennessee" by Nikki Giovani The class is structured: Ice Breakers (i.e. Do you like ice cream of cake?) African Proverb (“There is no wealth without children.”) Opening Question to prime the story Read aloud Question and Answer Share poem Choral reading of the poem Closing
