Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
This lesson is excellent for young students wanting to learn more about Fredrick Douglas and why he is a very important figure in American History. Students will learn about the difficulties he faced as a slave and as a black man. Students will learn about his strong will to escape from the terrible life of slavery and help others do so too. They will learn about this early life, his life as a slave and his life as a free person. Students will also be able to understand his involvement in the abolitionist movement, the women's suffrage and also the civil rights movement. Fredrick Douglas was very determined and fearless. He wanted slavery to end because he knew how wrong it was. We will have discussions about his accomplishments and how he helped many people. We will also talk about how his contributions back then still helps/inspires people today. Students will be able They will be able to kindly express their thoughts and opinions on this topic. Taking this class will help students learn and understand about powerful black figures like Mr. Douglas, who worked hard to achieve goals and help others, even though it was during a time when black people were not accepted in society. I am very excited to teach this class to students. I like to give all students time to speak, so sometimes this class may go over about 5 mins.
