Welcome to Kindergarten! This is a song and play-based kindergarten program. Each week, children will learn new songs, talk with friends and share what they have colored. Play is essential to young children’s healthy development and learning. Yet play is rapidly disappearing from many kindergarten programs. Each week, we will learn two new songs and movement games. Children can also request their favorite songs from our repertoire of children’s songs. The songs support learning language development and social emotional skills. We will explore the following language and phonics skills: - Learning letter sounds - Identifying shapes that make up letters - Learning our letters - uppercase and lowercase - Telling the difference between vowels and consonants - Long and short vowels - Vowel teams - R controlled vowels - Beginning and ending digraphs - Beginning and ending blends - What are Syllables? - Blending letter sounds together - Rhyming word games - Identifying the beginning, middle and ending sounds in words - Making words - Word families - Reading and writing sight words Week #1: “Hello Song and the ABC Song;” Discussion: What is your favorite color? Shape of the week- Circle. Math concept: Counting to 5. Week #2: “Please and Thank you” song and “The More We Get Together” Shape of the week- Oval. Math concept: Which number is bigger? Week #3: “Days of the week” and “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” Math concept: Shape of the week- triangle. Adding 2 numbers Week #4: “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” and “5 Green and Speckled Frogs” Shape of the week- Square. Math concept: counting frogs. Week #5: “Hokey Pokey” and “Where is Thumbkin ?” Shape of the week- Rectangle. Math concept: take away. Week #6: “Ring Around the Rosie” and “Little Chicks are Hungry” Shape of the week- hexagon. Math concept: counting to ten. Week #7: Color Song,” “Row, row, row your boat” and “Two Hands up High” Shape of the week- Octagon. Math concept: adding two numbers. Week #8: “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.” Shape of the week- Math concept: Counting on, start with a number and count on from that number. Week #9: “Baby Shark” and “Two Hands up High” Shape of the week- Triangle. Math concept: Week #10: 5 Little Monkeys Swinging in a Tree. Shape Lesson: Creating an animal with shapes.

- Participate in gross and fine motor development through songs, finger plays, and music and movement activities
- Practice and explore their artistic skills through guided step by step arts and crafts activities and drawings activities
