Class Experience

Can Roblox really be educational? Absolutely! “Adopt Me!” is a goal-oriented game, and this weekly club -- while social in nature -- will empower learners to discover how language, math, and social studies skills help them succeed!

While games and challenges will vary to support each group's unique level of educational experience, each weekly meeting of "Adopt Me" Club will follow a similar structure to cultivate the following skills:

Fireside Circle

Let's break the ice with a weekly conversation starter! Topics may include favorite pets, game goals, seasonal themes, and more, and I will serve as a friendly moderator to encourage golden-rule conversational skills and equal participation for all.

Games

"Adopt Me" is full of opportunities for play-based learning! Each game we play will support skills in questioning, observation, time management, and/or critical thinking -- such as 20 Questions, Heads Up, Scavenger Hunts, and more. Prizes abound for participation and completion!

Trading

This popular Roblox game is economics in action! Trading not only engages learners directly in concepts like supply and demand, but also encourages them to achieve their own goals by adding value for other players. In this segment of "Adopt Me" Club, I will once again serve as a friendly moderator to facilitate trades and the constructive communication skills they require.

Trivia

Let's learn fun facts about our favorite "Adopt Me" pets -- and their real-life relatives! This just-for-fun segment of "Adopt Me" Club will help learners understand the value of various digital pets AND experience the wonders of the animal kingdom they represent.

Challenges

More prizes! This problem-solving segment of "Adopt Me" Club will explore one of many opportunities for learners to apply language and/or math skills that help them succeed while playing "Adopt Me." Challenges will include a variety of math-based story problems, word games, and more!

Voting

Frequent updates to "Adopt Me" make it even more fun! I'll keep your player posted on the latest news from the game's creators AND invite them to vote in a weekly poll about upcoming events. Opinions and predictions about "Adopt Me" updates are just for fun, but your learners' votes WILL determine the prizes for next week's games and challenges!

Glow and Grow

Growth mindset is key! This closing circle will invite learners to share positive insights about their experiences with other players AND their individual goals before we meet again. In order to empower learners to choose their words wisely, I will once again facilitate an inclusive and constructive conversation for all.

WEEKLY THEMES

While the structure of each class will be consistent, each week will feature pets and trivia from a different Adopt Me egg and a variety of activities and conversation starters!

PLEASE NOTE

Because we WILL be playing Roblox together during class time, your child will need a second device with Roblox installed in order to fully participate. I will also need your child's Roblox username in order to send an invitation to our private server. If you prefer an educational Roblox experience without game play during class time, I offer a highly rated Introduction to Economics based on “Adopt Me” for this age group as well.

RULES

There is only one rule in "Adopt Me" Club: the Golden Rule! In order to ensure a fun and safe environment for all, scamming and unkind commentary about other players are unacceptable and absolutely will NOT be tolerated. It is my sincere hope that establishing this expectation at the beginning of each session will prevent problems, but in the unfortunate event that it does not, the following chain of communication and consequences will apply:

- First Offense: Verbal redirection during class

- Second Offense: Note home to parents

- Third Offense: Permanent withdrawal from "Adopt Me" Club

PREREQUISITES

- While there are no specific prerequisites for "Adopt Me" Club, a familiarity with the game is strongly recommended.

- Math challenges may include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and/or division at a 2nd-4th grade level and will vary to support the experience level of the group.

- In order to fully participate, your learner WILL need to provide a Roblox username for the private server AND have access to a second device during class time.
Learning Goals
Learners will first and foremost elevate the social, language, and math skills that empower them to succeed in "Adopt Me” — and in real life! Ongoing participation invites not only new friendships, but also problem-solving and critical-thinking capacities that support other learning goals as well.

Specific objectives in “Adopt Me” Club include:

- Practicing speaking and active listening skills

- Learning fun facts about “Adopt Me” pets, their value, and their real-life animal relatives

- Applying math and language skills to solve goal-oriented challenges

- Voting in polls to share opinions about “Adopt Me” updates and club prizes

- Setting and sharing goals

- Playing and trading in a friendly, safe, and educational environment

Parental Guidance
Roblox is an online gaming platform for players of all ages with inter-player communication capabilities. "Adopt Me" features no violence or disturbing imagery, but other games on the Roblox platform may be frightening or inappropriate for children. While most of the inter-player communication I witness in "Adopt Me" is friendly and trade-related, some players are unfortunately deceitful or unkind from time to time. To help mitigate this concern, we will play on a private server under my supervision during class time. PLEASE NOTE that we WILL be playing Roblox during class. In order to add your child to the private server, I will need your child's Roblox username. I will send you a private message requesting it when you sign up, and there is a reminder in the welcome post inside the classroom as well. If you prefer an educational Roblox experience without game play during class, I offer a highly rated Introduction to Economics based on “Adopt Me” for this age group as well. Outside class, I highly recommend monitoring your child's game play (and even playing the game together occasionally!) to help keep your child safe.
Supply List
In order to fully participate, your child will need a second device with Roblox installed because Zoom and Roblox cannot run on the same device at the same time.
