Having ADHD just means that our brains work differently. Students will work with Mrs. Ali to identify their own strengths and struggles with ADHD. Students will learn how to accept themselves as they come to understand ADHD/ADD. Students will learn how to communicate to others about their ADHD/ADD and advocate for themselves and their needs.
Mrs. Ali has been working with children for 11 years. Being a teacher, she has worked with over 500 students with neurodiversities, helping them learn how to succeed. As both a person with ADHD/ADD and a parent of a child with ADHD/ADD she has first hand experience of what ADHD/ADD looks like from both a child's perspective and the parents' perspective. She has practiced many different strategies with a variety of students, herself, and her child and has compiled a great many resources to help neurodiverse children. Mrs. Ali has taken over 20 hours of college courses on childhood brain development and Psychology. She has worked alongside Special Education experts and Psychologists to develop plans of success for neurodiverse children on the Autism spectrum, that have ADHD, dyslexia, and more.
Students may want to have a journal to keep track of their progress and what they learn, but this is optional.
Please Note: This class is strictly informational and the goal is to teach students about how the ADHD brain works as well as provide techniques on handling ADHD. This will not be therapeutic in nature. This class cannot and should not replace professional medical advice. Sensitive Topics: The following weeks address topics that may be sensitive for your learner. In these classes, students are taught the symptoms of ADHD with these topics. We discuss strategies and techniques that students may use to address these struggles in their life as a person with ADHD or ADD.
