Class Experience

Students will start class by defining an integer . Students will then learn to use a strategy that will help determine the sign of their answer. Students will use this strategy to determine the sign of the final answer when adding and subtracting integers and fractions. Once the strategy has been modeled, students will work on skill based problems to implement the strategy. Students will work on problems given and then will work on problems provided by other students or myself while checking for accuracy. Students will then work on problems on a worksheet.

Learning Goals

The goal of the lesson is to learn to add and subtract integers and fractions using an easy strategy.

This is a lesson that I have taught in a private tutoring session and in a public school setting, and I have seen how students struggle to identify the variables needed to master this concept as well as any misconceptions regarding this lesson. This allows me adjust the lesson to individual needs. I will make sure students are understanding the concept of this lesson.
