Class Experience

What will be taught? What topics will you cover?
In this class, students will learn how to speed stack! This is a fun hobby that strengthens motor skills and encourages physical activity. If you are new to cup-stacking, please see the video!

How is your class structured?
-We will introduce each other and I will demonstrate speed stacking.
-We will learn the 3-3-3, 3-6-3, and cycle. I will walk students through each set and repeat.
-We will race the 3-3-3, 3-6-3, and cycle.
-We will finish with some at-home cup-stacking games. Once learned, students will be able to play these on their own, over Zoom, or with friends! Some examples include: relays, partner stacking, and fitness stacking.

How will you teach? What's your teaching style? How much will learners get to interact with you and each other?
I have been teaching cup-stacking to kindergarten-sixth graders for ten years! I begin by demonstrating, and then walking students through each stack. We do a few run throughs together and then I give the students a chance to try on their own. I believe that students learn by doing, so the nature of this class is very active. Students will heavily participate by following along with the stacks and participating in games and races. I strive to create a welcoming environment in which all students feel comfortable participating.

Any required experience or knowledge learners need?
Students do not need to have any prior knowledge to participate. They will have the best experience if they have a set of 12 speed stacks. If they would like to try it out before buying cups, they can use 12 plastic/paper cups. I recommend poking holes in the tops of the cups if you are using plastic or paper cups.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to complete the 3-3-3, 3-6-3, and cycle stacks.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I offer several elementary and middle level classes to enhance learners understanding of core subject areas (ELA, math, social studies, science). I also offer beginner piano lessons. I am currently a special education teacher at a public school in Pennsylvania. I graduated from the University of Valley Forge with a degree in Early Childhood Education, a dual certification in Special Education, and a minor in Children's Studies. I have worked with many English Language Learners in the classroom and during service trips to Northern Ireland and Panama. I was also a national cross country champion in college and have coached cross country, track, and soccer. I am passionate about teaching because I believe that constructive learning that develops from within the student unlocks amazing opportunities for children. In addition to teaching, I love spending time with my husband, running outdoors, playing the piano, and reading. I hope to see your children in my classroom soon to continue on their learning journeys!
