This ongoing weekly structured Acting Class will deepen your teens desire to act, while they strengthen their technique. Ideal for teen performers who would like to develop a strong technique, our learners will learn the fundamentals of acting in this interactive, energetic, fast-paced and positive class environment. This class is ideal for beginners but easy for the the intermediate or advanced actor. Each class will start off with an energetic vocal and movement warm-ups. Through a series of constantly rotating fun exercises and various popular drama games, we will focus on speech, diction, role-playing and character development. Halfway through the class actors will apply the instructed technique to a short scene/play/monologue for performance at the end of class. During class time, actors will receive private one-on-one instruction in breakout rooms while rehearsing their selected performance piece. At the end of each class all learners will come together and perform for one another, as well receive positive and helpful feedback form the other students and the instructor. Please see our weekly schedule below for our Winter Term 2022: Week #1 THEATRE GAMES-This Class will be devoted to the art of improvisational theatre. Actors will work toward creating their own small short play or scene and perform it at the end of class. Week #2 SCENE STUDY-Actors will work in small groups on a various pre-selected scene from a published play and perform it at the end of class. Week #3 LET'S PUT ON A PLAY-All learners will have a role and rehearse a pre-selected short one-act play for performance at the end of class. Week #4 MONOLOGUE'S-Actors will learn how to select and perform a monologue effectively for their next big audition. Week #5 HOW TO AUDITION-Actors will learn the basic principals of how to prepare themselves effectively for their next big audition. Learners will take part in a mock audition towards the end of the class. Week #6 THE VOICE-This class will focus on strengthening the actors speaking voice by learning how to us utilize their voices effectively for the stage. We will work on a short play that focuses on diction and articulation. Week #7 SCENE STUDY (TWO-HANDERS)-Actors will be paired in groups of two in a pre-selected play or scene involving only two actors. Week #8 MOVEMENT FOR THE ACTOR-Actors will learn various exercises on how to express themselves by using only their bodies. We will also focus on effective storytelling without words by only using the actors body to express emotion. ***Each class listed above has it's specific curriculum and is designed to be taken on its own. Although related to one another, each class does not depend on one another. More weeks and class outlines will be added later in the fall.
Learning Goals
Students will have a chance to explore their desire to act in a structured and safe and super fun environment. The tools that are taught through theatre are wonderful for improving literacy skills, memorization and overall confidence and a strong work ethic.

Parental Guidance
**PLEASE NOTE: Ongoing classes are charged differently than other classes on Outschool. This weekly charge is on Sunday's for the following week. Parents are most welcome to cancel any week, but please make sure you do PRIOR to Sunday of that week. When a parent cancels their subscription, their child's spot will open up for another child to enroll. Unfortunately, for our ongoing classes we will be unable to do refund, transfers or make-up classes. Thank you in advance for your understanding regarding this matter.
**A medium to large open space is required. Comfortable clothing such as, athletic or dance attire works perfectly well. As for shoes, if your child is participating on a hard surface floor such as hardwood or tile, a pair of running shoes are recommended for proper support. Should your child be in carpeted room, non stick socks work. Cordless ear buds required or simply using the microphone form your child's computer work well. No prior stretching or warming up is required and water bottles are a must!

Teacher expertise and credentials
The Acting for Teens Performance Group will be instructed by Howard Kane.
Mr. Kane has been teaching children's the craft of Acting and Musical Theatre for over thirty years. He is currently teaches highly gifted teenagers in the school’s in-person Master Class in which he has taught for over two decades. Prior to opening the school in the year 2000, Mr. Kane headed up the drama departments at Toronto Montessori Schools and the North York Montessori Learning Centre. Prior to teaching, Mr. Kane had a long career as a performer in New York City where he studied and performed on Broadway and Off-Broadway. His highly energetic and positive teaching methods have been recognized in 2012, when his school was nominated for The Richmond Hill Chamber of Commerce for an Excellence in Business Achievement Award. Mr. Kane currently has many of his former students working in the performing arts industry as well as currently studying in highly recognized arts programs at the secondary and University level.
