Students will learn about the art of Joan Mitchell,Manuel Felguérez , and the symbolism of colors through hands on methods and group discussion in the beginning of the course. Students will then create their own abstract painting discussing the feelings that they are feeling and will talk about their painting as a way to show what the student has learned without the coaching of the teacher. 5 minute- introduction of teacher and students with ice breaker question: "What is your favorite cartoon?" 15 minute- introduction of the material and discuss -Abstract painting- what does abstract mean? -Joan Mitchell- Who is she? What emotions do you think she was conveying in her paintings? -Manuel Felguérez- Who is he? What emotions do you think he is conveying? -Colors and Emotions- What color would you use for happiness? sadness? being angry? Love? 20 minutes- introduction of painting with watercolor and making of abstract pieces 10 minutes- talk about pieces and wrapping up

11 in x 17 in paper, 1 oil pastel, and water color paints.
