Sewing is a great life skill to promote eye hand coordination, confidence and focus. Sewing also fosters creativity . Learn to sew in this 1 week camp as an absolute beginner. This is a machine sewing class that will include some hand sewing. No prior experience is required. Join us to make 4 fun projects including a button pillow ,a tote bag, a set of placemats and a stuffed bear. Students will learn about different types of fabrics ,sewing straight seams, sewing on buttons, hemming and top-stitching. Sewing terminology and how to use basic sewing tools will be included. Sewing builds discipline and patience while encouraging imagination. It also promotes calm and gives a learner a sense of accomplishment and pride. Sewing gives a student the opportunity to design and plan. This is a very interactive class and students can ask for help at any point. Students are encouraged to share projects with each other. Day 1: Let's learn about the machine and practice a few stitches. Also sewing on buttons and how to create patterns. Day 2: Make a tote bag Following a simple pattern make a reusable bag to take with you anywhere. Day 3: Make 2 placemats (you can get enough fabric to make 2 more later!). Today we will master top-stitching. Day 4: Make a button pillow This class will feature joining fabrics and sewing buttons. Day 5 Make a stuffed Bear This class will teach using a prepared pattern(uploaded to class) and sewing curves. Also we will cover some basic embroidery stitches to embellish the bear.
Learning Goals
Students will learn basic terminology and how to use a sewing machine. Students will ppractice skills by creating projects.

Sewing Machine Scissors straight pins seam ripper seam gauge measuring tape Hand sewing needles kraft paper or newsprint in large sheets to make patterns. Also a roll of wrapping paper works. Tote Bag: 1/2 yard of cotton fabric, 2 yards of 1" webbing , thread to match Placemats: 1 yard of two different coordinating cotton fabrics (2 yards if you wish to make more) thread to match Button pillow: 1/4 yard of 3 coordinating fabrics, decorative buttons from 5-10 to coordinate, thread to match, Polyester stuffing Bear: 1/2 yard of felt, fleece or cotton fabric, thread to match,DMC floss in black and pink, Polyester stuffing

Hi, my name is Miss Angie! I am a teacher of 20+ years. I follow a Charlotte- Mason/Waldorf inspired teaching philosophy and love teaching poetry, literature and handcrafts such as cross stich, embroidery, sewing and crochet. I am also passionate about tea and poetry tea times for a variety of age groups. I love allowing young minds to explore their creativity and believe in hands on/student led education.I believe in music and art as foundations for learning.
I have a BA in Speech and Drama with a minor in English and have taught music and theatre in addition to Language Arts , history and elementary school.
I'm also a mom of two fantastic daughters. The other love of my life is an adorable little Pomklee named Hunter.
