Class Experience

Beginner Level
How do you learn to read? Well, you start at the very beginning. The very beginning is individual letters. Children need to know the sounds and names of the letters in order to begin to read. In this ongoing class, we will focus on a letter each week to get your child ready to read. We will start each day by singing the ABC song and doing some quick activities to practice letters we know and are learning. We will do some calendar activities as well. We will then dive into a focused activity that will reinforce our learning of the letter for that week. We will discuss the name and sound of the letter. We read a book each day to work on literacy skills. There are sight words that we will be working on and reviewing throughout each week. We also practice counting, one-to-one correspondence, shapes, sorting, and colors. Throughout each day we practice social skills such as taking turns, listening to our friends and speaking to a group. We will wrap up our lesson with a song.

🔍Please note that this course is even for beginners who know a few or even no letters.

My classroom is a mixture of different activities that require different types of interaction during the lesson. At times we will all be singing and participating. Other times we may be quiet with the mute button on so that learners can really focus on the teacher's instructions. At other times your child may be presenting something to the class. This will not be a purely muted or unmuted class. Please keep that in mind as you decide whether to sign your child up for this class.

⭐️⭐️This class will meet 4 times per week. Most of the time the schedule will be Monday through Thursday. Once in a while, it may shift depending on holidays.

⭐️⭐️I try not to spend too much time dwelling on Holidays, but they may be mentioned during class.

⭐️⭐️Each Wednesday will be a show and tell day. Your child is invited to find something that begins with the letter from that week to share with the others.

⭐️⭐️Each week I will post a video of a letter craft that your child may do with simple materials from your home. Most of the time you will need to either print out the paper or copy it onto paper for your child to use. They will need coloring tools, scissors, and glue most of the time.

🔍Each week will be a new letter and your learner can join at any time. We will cycle through the alphabet and restart after all 26 letters have been taught. At least 2 weeks in advance I will post a schedule here of what letter will be each week. We also do a lot of review of the letters we have learned.

🔍Each section of this class will be discussing the same letter.
