Assessment
Assessment for meeting the learning goals in this class will be informal and ongoing throughout the course of the class. Here are four ways that students may be assessed: Observations of student artwork: The instructor will review and assess each student's artwork throughout the class to evaluate their progress in developing their drawing skills and hand-eye coordination. Comprehension questions: After the storytelling portion of each session, students will be asked comprehension questions about the animal of the day, which will help to evaluate their listening and comprehension skills. Feedback and participation: The instructor will provide feedback to each student as they work on their drawings and encourage participation during class activities and discussions. Self-assessment: The instructor may also encourage students to assess their own progress by reflecting on their artwork and the skills they have developed over the course of the class. Overall, the assessment for meeting the learning goals in this class will be focused on providing feedback and encouragement to students rather than formal testing or grading. The goal is to help students develop their skills and confidence in a supportive and encouraging environment.

In this class, learner will embark on a delightful journey where they'll learn to draw a different animal for each letter of the alphabet. Not only will they unleash their inner artists, but they'll also discover fascinating facts about various animals and their special traits. Our goal is to create a fun and interactive learning experience, encouraging children to enjoy the process of learning while exploring their creativity.

What will your child learn?
Throughout the class, your child will master the art of drawing a wide range of animals, from friendly alligators to marvelous zebras, covering every letter of the alphabet. Each lesson will include an original and engaging story about the animal of the week, packed with interesting facts. Afterward, your child will have the opportunity to answer comprehension questions and showcase their understanding. Additionally, they'll explore different colors, shapes, and drawing techniques, enhancing their artistic skills.

What topics will be covered?
Our class will delve into captivating animal-related topics such as where these creatures live, what they eat, how they behave, and their unique physical characteristics. Moreover, your child will also learn about various colors, shapes, and drawing techniques, expanding their creative abilities.

How is the class structured?
We've carefully structured the class to be easily understood by young children. Each session begins with a short introduction to the letter and animal of the week, followed by an enthralling story brimming with intriguing animal facts. As the story unfolds, our talented instructor will provide step-by-step demonstrations on how to draw the featured animal, sharing helpful tips and techniques along the way. After that, your child will have the chance to color their drawing while participating in a fun review game.

To make the class even more enjoyable and engaging, we use visual aids, storytelling, and interactive drawing exercises. Students will be given a printable step bye step, starter and warm up pages that should be printed out before class for leaners to use during the class. The starter page helps to ensure success while building drawing and visual perceptual skills. Our instructor incorporates video clips, slides, and games to capture your child's attention and foster their learning experience.

We also encourage students to share their drawings with the class, enabling them to express their creativity and receive feedback from their peers. Additionally, we provide downloadable PDF resources after each class, including drawing practice, writing practice, letter recognition, and coloring pages, for further practice at home.

Our teaching style is designed to be fun, engaging, and interactive. We firmly believe that children learn best when they're having fun and actively participating in the learning process. Our instructors are patient, supportive, and utilize positive reinforcement to encourage children to participate and develop their skills.

Throughout the class, your child will have ample opportunities to interact with the instructor and their peers. Interactive drawing exercises, games, and discussions are an integral part of each session. Moreover, your child will gain access to a private online classroom where they can share their artwork, ask questions, access printable lesson supplements, and interact with other students.

No prior experience or knowledge is required for this class. It's perfectly suited for children aged 4-7 who have an interest in animals and drawing. However, if your child has some drawing experience or an artistic inclination, they will benefit from the class as well. We encourage parents to supervise their children during the class and provide assistance if needed, while remaining off-camera in accordance with Outschool policy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm a professional artist, photographer, and author from East Texas. I love to connect art with everything else in life—math, science, history, and language arts.

To date I have had the privilege of teaching over 2,100 students over the past three years teaching on Outschool.

I've been homeschooling for 19 years and have taught children's art classes privately and through local after-school programs.
My art lessons and photography have been internationally published on blogs and magazines. I also wrote a book about photography!

As a home educator with an eclectic view on teaching methods (including classical education, the trivium, Charlotte Mason, the Socratic Method, unschooling, and child-directed learning), I see the power of making connections in everything we do. Art happens to be my favorite tool to use when guiding students in making connections as well.
