What's included

1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. I will not give required homework, but I do encourage students to watch the corresponding videos I create, which will provide them with reminders of what we went over in class and an easy way to listen to and repeat the Spanish words and phrases that they are learning. I would also recommend downloading Duolingo and having your child practice using the app a few minutes every day, if possible.
Assessment
The learner will be assessed informally. I will provide you with feedback that will indicate where your child needs additional time and assistance.

Class Experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner Level
The focus of part one of this course is to build a foundation for the Spanish language. Just like babies learn to speak their native language by hearing the language, repetition, and focusing on the basics- my students will do the same, but with Spanish. But don’t get me wrong, this course is not just for young children. I will adjust my teaching approach to meet the needs of all age groups. Just be sure to choose the appropriate section for your child’s age. We will start with the alphabet, common objects, shapes, colors and numbers. Then we will begin building simple sentences. I will always include visuals and provide positive reinforcement. This class will include a combination of learning structures. Students will practice speaking with me and their peers, they will practice writing and reading, and as mentioned before they will get to hear examples repeatedly and have visuals to assist with retention. We will use different educational sites to do additional practice and formative assessments. The course materials will cycle every eight weeks. Then my students can join me in part two which will add on more vocabulary, more complex sentence structures and include mini grammar lessons. If you would like your child to meet with me in a 1-on-1 setting to reinforce what they are learning in the small group session, I’d be more than happy to schedule that with you.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I recommend that each student do some additional practice throughout the week by watching and engaging with the YouTube videos I create and link to the feedback I provide to parents. Also, all sites such as gimkit.com, Kahoot, Quizziz.com, Nearpod, Canva, Duolingo, YouTube and Blooket.com will be used to offer a variety of ways to reinforce what the students are learning during the lesson.
Supply List
I ask that all learners come to class with a notebook and something to write with. If they have an additional device, aside from the one they are joining class with, it may be helpful for them to have it nearby. We will play educational games during each session and I find that having an additional device is helpful for many students.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a certified teacher and have been teaching for 9 years in a school setting. I have done online and in-person tutoring for over six years. I’ve worked with all age groups from pre-K students to adults. The subject area I tutored in most was in language learning, both English and Spanish. My mother is from Puerto Rico and my father is Dominican, so I’ve been immersed in the Spanish language myself.
