Class Experience

This course is best for students that have taken A Taste of Fashion Design- Get Inspired. However, it is not required. A Taste of Fashion Design- Get Inspired does provide a foundation for this camp.

In this course, students will learn the process of designing a fashion collection of 3 - 4 looks/outfits. The process of designing a fashion collection is complex. As a result, please know that the first class is dedicated to learning the process. It is necessary for students to follow the process that begins with research and creating a mood board. Students will begin sketching their designs during the second class. If students begin sketching before doing research, they will have unrelated fashion sketches instead of a fashion collection.

The teacher will guide students through the process by utilizing Google Slides presentations/lessons and how-to-sketch demonstrations. Some of our topics of discussion are mood boards, color, sketching different types of garments, and using a mood board to create new designs. Students will practice sketching techniques in class and at home. Students will share their progress with the class. The teacher will provide feedback throughout the process.

All fashion collection sketches are to be made using a body template. Students may sketch on a croquis (body template provided by the teacher, or their own body template). Students will:

Class 1
View fashion collections (teacher & student) and learn the process of designing a fashion collection.
Homework: Select muse, color palette, and make a mood board.

Class 2

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've had a passion for fashion since I was a little girl! My love for teaching fashion classes began when I taught high school sewing classes. I began offering fashion design/sketching classes for my sewing school students in grades 6 -12, six years ago. I quickly learned that my younger students wanted fashion classes too! I then created a class for grades 4 and 5 and redesigned it a year later, for students in grades 2 - 4.

During the pandemic, I rediscovered my love for sketching fashions and I began teaching sketching classes on the Outschool platform. Sketching fashions is fun for all ages and I love encouraging students and sharing tips and tricks that will help them improve their skills along them along the way!
