This will be an examination of tangrams, an introduction to fractions, and igniting the imagination for students to write their own tangram story after the class. Class will begin with reading "Grandfather Tang's Story." Each student will have their own set of tangrams (printable provided before class begins). Students will create the characters of the story using the tangrams throughout the book. After a brief discussion from guided questions at the end of the story, I will introduce the concept of fractions using the tangrams. Then students will be encouraged to create their own characters with the tangrams and write their own stories after class using the characters they created in class.

I am a licensed elementary and HS History educator with multi-grade experience in language arts and history. I have also worked as an adjunct professor and a community college for history. At every educational level, math and literature can beautifully intertwine to create a wonderful environment for learning. Tangrams, as the introduction to fractions, and the story of Grandfather Tang and Little Soo come together in a magical way for students to create their own story while learning writing and math together.
