Little Bee Phonics Level 1 with Ms. Louise Join us and learn how to blend sounds into words, and read and write short sentences! Your learner will enjoy this small group class where they can feel comfortable taking risks, participate in many learning activities, and be given opportunities to practice outside of class. PREREQUISITE SKILLS: Learners who have mastered letter recognition and most associated sounds, and have experience with rhyming and syllabication are ready to move into the next stage of sequential phonics. Many learners who have taken my "Early Reading Skills: Pre Phonics, Phonological Awareness" ongoing class are ready for Little Bee Phonics Level 1. CLASS GOALS: This class incorporates prior learner knowledge about letters and their sounds with learning to read and write words through blending, decoding, and encoding, and will also include a focus on sight words throughout. In addition, we will read and create simple sentences to support fluency and comprehension. HOW WE WILL REACH OUR GOALS: Learners will interact with the teacher and peers during every class, using opportunity for "try-its," as well as peer support and feedback. This class uses slides, stories, hands-on participation, song, games during classes, as well as a provided workbook for outside of class activities and support. In addition, we will take a 1-3 minute "brain break" of dance or movement game about halfway through class to help support stamina and stimulate the brain. * Please carefully view the class supply list. EXPECTATIONS FOR OUR CLASS: I typically enjoy having learners unmuted. However, depending on the background noises and learner vocal activity, I may ask all learners to mute for a time. I also encourage the use of headphones if there is a moderate amount of background noise within the environment so that learners are able to get the most out of their class time. Please ensure your learner is able to mute and unmute or has someone nearby who can assist. Per Outschool policy, please remember that only the learner should be onscreen. Siblings, friends, and grown-ups should remain out of view. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
I am Ms. Louise, and it is my mission to ensure that every learner feels special and confident in their learning through engaging and interactive lessons and activities!
Experience and Style:
With 24 years experience teaching grades 1-4, my specialties are writing, language skills, phonemic awareness and phonics, and reading. Outschool provides a perfect platform for me to reach students as I love teaching kids in small group settings, as well as individually. This allows me to gain more insight and take the opportunity to modify my approach to match their learning needs.
Hands-on, interactive teaching and learning is extremely effective for young learners, and this is why my teaching includes fun and engaging activities that will allow the learner to interact with content and make connections, improving overall learning success.
Philosophy:
I believe that all children can be successful, grow, and become their best selves through time and interest investment from the help of caring adults. Parents often tell me I am patient, and seem to have a calming effect on my students in the classroom, while setting expectations that will create an environment where each child is valued and respected by myself and other learners. My students have a lot to teach me, too- I enjoy learning from students as much as I do teaching!
Education:
Masters Degree in Elementary Education Georgetown College
Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education Georgetown College
On a Personal Note:
I have been married for 24 years and have 2 children at home. My oldest is 21 and my youngest are 15. We have two cats and a dog, and when I get a chance to relax, I will likely be found in my outdoor hammock, but I also enjoy traveling. I could visit the beach every day and never tire of the sand and waves!
I look forward to meeting and working with your learners!
