A Reading Discovery Through Phonics

In this on-going course, your child will engage in learning a new sound each week. These sequential lessons will build your learner’s phonics skills through consistent practice. Students will become better readers and spellers.

What's included

1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. There will be activities that will begin during class and may need to be completed after class.
Assessment
Each student's progress will be monitored during each class. This will guide future lessons.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
This is an on-going course that focuses on building phonics skills. Your child will have the opportunity to learn by watching and practicing. There will be various read alouds, informational videos, songs, and hands on activities that your child will engage in.

Learning Goals
Students will learn and practice different sounds that phonemes make. They will be able to build, manipulate, write and read words based off of the sounds taught. Students will be able to rhyme and break words into syllables.

Supply List
Students may need paper, pencil, coloring materials, scissors, glue/tape, white board, and dry erase marker. 
There will be documents needed for class that will be posted to the classroom page prior to each meeting.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! My name is Maria Ramirez. I have a masters degree in elementary education from Simmons University. I hold a Massachusetts teaching license for grades 1-6 and a Moderate Disabilities License for PreK - 8. I have been teaching children for over 16 years in charter, public, private, online schools, homeschool, and internationally during the school year and summer. I am passionate in finding fun and engaging ways to teach. I believe in nurturing each student's curiosity and excitement to learn through hands on exploration and discovery. I am a mother to two children ages 7 and 9.  We love to spend time vegetable and fruit gardening, taking care of our chickens, painting, going on nature walks, and reading books together.
