Let's keep the creativity going through summer! This summer camp class will allow learners to practice their creative writing skills and boost creative confidence. Classes will meet twice a week for 2 weeks for a total of 4 sessions. Through this creative writing summer camp, learners will practice polishing up a range of writing skills that may include but not are limited to brainstorming ideas and topics, parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc.), organizing writing in beginning, middle, and ending, characters, plot, setting, and vocabulary. Class Structure: Introductions and a fun fact (first session only or if a new learner joins the class): Learners will have an opportunity to briefly introduce themselves and tell others one fun fact about themselves. I will introduce myself and share a fun fact about myself then go over the class expectations. Focus of the Day: Each class session will focus on a different creative writing skill. Week !: Introduction to Creative Writing We will discuss description and how to use describing words to enhance writing. Week 2: Story Structure We will discuss how to structure writing to give our stories a beginning, a middle, and an ending that all go together. Week 3: Story Elements We will discuss the elements that go into writing a story. Learners will practice creating characters, plots, settings, conflicts, themes, and points of view for their stories. Week 4: Using Our Senses We will discuss observing our surroundings to enhance our stories. We will celebrate all we have learned and the creative writings we have produced. Each session will include: Brainstorming: Learners will have an opportunity to ask questions about the focus of the day and discuss their ideas for their writing. There will be a brainstorming activity to go along with the focus of the day. Writing: Learners will have time to work on their writing. Learners will be encouraged to write as much as they can but with no pressure to complete a story. Sharing: Learners will be invited to share what they have written, however, there is no requirement for them to share their work. The teacher will offer positive feedback and encourage peers to share encouraging emojis and comments. It is important to me that all learners can succeed in their learning. I teach by encouraging each learner to try their best. Each learner is different and unique in their learning style and I try to acknowledge each learner's ability. I believe in a positive learning environment where everyone is welcome. Important Things To Know: Who is welcome in the class? All learners are welcome! I want everyone to feel comfortable and welcome in this class. I will try my best to help everyone feel heard and valued. I also like to have fun. What supplies does the learner need for this class? No additional supplies are required for this class just a desire to have fun and learn. Learners who prefer to use paper and pencil to write will need those supplies but not required.
