Go back in time with me to the American Revolutionary War when the Thirteen Colonies fought against Great Britain to become their own country. Colonists were asked to pick sides and many sided with the Patriots. BUT.....How many people chose to side with Britain? How many people didn't pick sides at all? Who were the heroes and leaders of the Patriots? Did the Loyalists have any heroes? What happened to the Loyalists when America won the war? The answers might surprise you! All of these...
Learners will come away with knowledge in the following areas: -Critical Thinking and Reasoning -Respecting Other’s Views -Reasons Patriots Wanted Their Own Country -Reasons Some People Chose to Be Loyalists -Families With Both Patriots and Loyalists -Key Figures on Both Sides -Where Did Loyalists Go After War
It has been my pleasure to teach Middle School students the history of North America in Canadian classrooms for over 20 years. The history of Canada and the history of the United States will always be intertwined and it’s awesome to see the lightbulb go off in our kids’ brains when they first realize this! I live for and LOVE these light bulb moments. Know that when your learners take my classes, they will be taught to consider more than their own points of view, learn some interesting historical information in a fun way, and develop critical thinking and reasoning skills that are more important now than ever before.
