A Beginner's Guide to Hitting a Baseball

Class Experience

This class will be taught by the teacher demonstrating the motions and the students repeating them. The students will show the teacher what they feel they saw demonstrated and the teacher will give feedback until they have mastered each step

There will be 10 - 15 minutes for introductions and if time allows maybe having the students demonstrate how they would hit now (but not necessary, as this can be for absolute beginners, and to be quite honest most players at this age really don't know how to swing correctly or they need some modification to their swing)

Then we cover the stance 5 - 10 minutes (I call this Jump in the Box).

Followed by using the lower half of the body 10 - 15 minutes (the most important and what's missing in most swings in all levels through age 12 or more)

Then the stride 5 - 10 minutes

Swing  10 minutes

Grip (if there's time left)

Learning Goals

Students will learn the motions of a proper swing that they'll be able to practice to either hit for the first time or get better than they were before.

Parental Guidance

While a bat would probably make the student feel more comfortable, most of the learning is done without one, so it's not necessary to have one for this class (which may seem counter productive, but I've taught this method a ton of times and I get the best success without using a bat until the final 10 - 15 minutes).

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
