This class is an 8-week series. Students will learn about the principles of concept art in cartooning. Have you ever wondered what it takes for a Walt Disney animated movie to come to life? Each Disney animation started in the mind of a Walt Disney Studios Concept Artist. Sometimes the story-line comes first, sometimes it is a character or an animal they like, whichever way it happens it starts with imagination. Concept art takes the idea for a character and creates a design for it, showing the character in multiple poses, expressions and perspectives. In this series they will analyze the original artworks of Disney artists, draw Disney characters and create their own concept art for an original character. Though prior knowledge in basic sketching skills are not mandatory to attend, it is highly recommended that complete beginners join our Fundamental Pencil Sketching series before they proceed to this class: Pencil Sketching Fundamentals Part 1 https://outschool.com/classes/3-week-pencil-sketching-art-series-part-1-fundamentals-for-beginners-ATFBsgrq#usRzeseCIM In this class, students will learn how to: 1. Identify what makes a good character memorable. 2. Observe the shapes and forms in characters that capture and express their personalities. 3. Apply the principles of basic cartooning such as simplification, emphasis, exaggeration, minimization and repetition. 4. Create their own concept art for their own original character. Once they have built a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to design a multitude of original characters of their own. This class is ideal for any student interested in animation or game design. Classes are highly interactive and students will have the opportunity to socialize and share their ideas in a fun and upbeat environment.
