Beginner Level
This is an 8-week series. Class meets once every week. Students will learn to use the principles of anatomy to approach each stage of drawing an animal, from the initial structure to the parts of the body and shading of the finished work. Students will be introduced to forms, gestures, skeletal and muscle structures. They will understand how these concepts can be applied, adapted and manipulated to capture a realistic rendering of the animal body. They will learn how quadruped bodies are different from avian and reptile bodies in subsequent weeks. Once they build a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to sketch a multitude of animals with confidence. Classes are highly interactive and students will have the opportunity to socialize and share their ideas in a fun and upbeat environment. Schedule Week 1 – 2D - Outline Lines & shapes Students will understand the fundamentals of basic anatomy structure by capturing the landmark structures of the animal body. Week 2 – 3D - Forms & Structures Students will use 3D shapes, identifying their axis lines and using them to fill the animal body. They will practice this concept using equine forms. Week 3 – Mammal Anatomy - Skull & Skeletal Frames Students will explore how the cranial bone structures differ and influence the animal’s head shape. They will also delve into the skeletal makeup of the animal body, and how it influences the way animals pose and move. They will practice this concept using canine forms. Week 4 – Mammal Portrait - Muscles & Tissues Students will add musculature to their drawing, understanding how the lay of soft tissues can influence their final portrait renderings. They will practice this concept using feline forms. Week 5 – Birds - Form & Structure Study Students will learn how to draw avian bodies. They will understand the fundamental elements of bird anatomy such as their skeletons, feet, beaks and wings. Week 6 – Reptiles - Form & Structure Study Students will learn how to draw reptilian bodies. They will understand the fundamental elements of reptile anatomy such as their skeletons, feet, tails and scales. Week 7 – Fish - Form & Structure Study Students will learn how to draw fish bodies. They will understand the fundamental elements of aquatic anatomy such as their skeletons, fins, eyes and scales. Week 8 – Mythical Animals Students will use their acquired knowledge on the fundamentals of animal drawing and apply them to the construction of a mythical creature. ______________________________________________________________________ Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies: Mandatory Video Check-In Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Younger learners are highly encouraged to leave their cameras on. Missed Classes & Refunds All our classes are backed by the ‘Limited’ refund policy. Parents may withdraw up to a week before class starts with a full refund OR within 24 hours of purchase. In the event a learner misses a class, recordings are made available in each classroom. Students are more than welcomed to reach out for any questions and share their work in the classroom. Late/ Missed Class All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.
Learning Goals
Students will learn the principles of animal anatomy, including forms, gestures, skeletal, and muscle structures, to create realistic renditions of various animals. Through interactive sessions, they will gain confidence in their sketching abilities and understand the unique characteristics of quadruped bodies compared to avian and reptile bodies.
