Welcome to 7th grade math!! *PLEASE make sure to read this listing in the entirety! Also, please be sure to read my listing as I want to make sure I am the teacher for your family. Please know that it takes both of us to communicate for your child's success. I truly appreciate your help this year! In this ongoing course, students will practice the concepts outlined in the 7th grade math curriculum according to the common core state standards. This class meets live, 2 times a week to ensure that we are able to cover topics in detail and allow time to check for student mastery. AFTER each class, students may stay, for a math game that we will play. This is solely by choice, but it IS a lot of fun! The class game will not take place after every class, but I do try to offer a game every other week, depending on when the class is and time. We play for 15 minutes to reinforce concepts. I also play Kahoot games and use other games to check for success in the topics I teachπ. During this ongoing course we will learn concepts in an interactive format. I do not use a specific curriculum. I write my own math curriculum based on standards for learning and writing math curriculum for over 2 decades, teaching, and being a homeschooling parent to our children. Students will be able to build understanding throughout the class period, have problems modeled for them, and have time to do independent practice where I can check for their understanding of the problems taught that day. It is very important that your child comes prepared, with camera on, supplies, and ready to participate. I begin promptly yet allow a few moments of warming up, class jokes, review, and time for questions before the lesson. After the lesson, I ask for any questions to ensure your child has an opportunity to go over any skill. Before some classes students will have guided notes to print out that will be left in the classroom so that they don't have to write everything down and be allowed time to focus on the key concepts and use our time wisely. As a teacher and homeschooling mom, it is very difficult to take notes while trying to watch a concept being taught. At the end of some classes' students will be given a worksheet to cover material from the class. I am not the typical teacher. I do not like to give excess homework, worksheets, and papers. I find that this can be quite overwhelming and unnecessary for learning math. I make sure to do spiral reviews so that these topics will be retained. There will be assessments issued periodically to make sure that students are retaining the information. These take place in class and come in the form of your child completing a problem, sending me the answer via class chat, and then me checking their work. It can also look like verbal questioning, class exit tickets, bell ringers, and games. I also do not hand out letter grades at all but focus on helping the student understand the problems. I do place how many problems they miss at the top of the paper but that is the extent to the grading system. If you would like the percent on your child's paper, please let me know and I can accommodate. I do not offer your typical report cards, tests, and quizzes. I use several ways to determine if your child understands what is being taught. I do not send letter grades to parents. I grade papers and return them. IF you need more, please let me know and we can discuss this. I do not give out weekly grades, report cards, etc. Likewise, I ask that you, as the parent, make certain to remove all distractions before class begins. This will help the child with learning the skills optimally. ***Please note that I do not offer make-up schedules if your child misses a class; instead, I ask that they watch the video recording. If your child then does not understand the class recording, please reach out. Otherwise, the playback video is what you will need to watch if you are out of class for the day or week. :) Also, if I am sick, I will offer make-up classes, so no refunds will be given unless I am too sick to teach at all. I always do my best, but I do get sick from time to timeπ. Please note: The topics are posted by WEEK. Therefore, if you sign up for an earlier or later date, this just shows you what topic you will learn each week for that month. Please make sure to pay attention to what you were signing up for so that thereβs no confusion. **The teacher reserves the right to change and/or adjust concepts based on student need and I generally do this often to facilitate successful learning in math. Refund Policy: All classes follow Outschool policies for refunds! Students will not be refunded for missing one of the two meetings but may request the recording to be shared.
