2-4 hours per week. Homework problem sets will be uploaded in PDF format, along with their respective answer keys. Students can check their work to gauge their understanding of the material, but if ever they're struggling with an assignment, please reach out for a more in-depth explanation and feedback from me. If ever you need additional practice problems to fully solidify a concept, I am more than happy to provide additional practice problems.Assessment
We will have a unit assessment at the end of each week that covers the week's lessons, as well as a segment assessment that is cumulative from all of the material covered in this segment of 7th grade math (segment 1).Class Experience
US Grade 7
This is segment 1 of 5 of my 7th grade math course. It is intended to be a full year of 7th grade math when all 5 segments are taken. This segment will be broken down into the following units: Unit 1: Integers Unit 2: Operations with Integers Unit 3: Decimals Unit 4: Operations with Decimals Unit 5: Number Theory Unit 6: Fractions Unit 7: Converting Fractions Unit 8: Operations with Fractions Part 1 Unit 9: Operations with Fractions Part 2 Unit 10: Rational Numbers Each unit is expected to take approximately a week, and varies between 2 and 5 lessons per unit. There will be a short video with examples for each lesson with additional practice problems for homework to follow. I will provide an answer key for each problem set, but please feel free to attach pictures of the students' work if they need additional explanations or feedback on any given problem throughout the course. Throughout the course, there will also be free response questions that students can respond to via a comment. This course is not intended to be a stereotypical textbook math course that has word problems with little relevance to real life. This is a unique math course that explores topics through a homesteading lens, where example problems will have ties back to problems I face on the homestead every day. We have a homestead on almost 22 acres in Michigan, where we raise cattle, pigs, goats, chickens, and honeybees, as well as garden and cook from scratch almost every single day. Many of the skills we'll be covering in 7th grade math are put to good use on the homestead when I'm building a new structure for my animals, planning a new garden for the year, or cooking from scratch. Hopefully that extra layer of connection adds value to this math course and helps to maintain interest throughout the length of the course. If students are in need of additional (live) 1:1 support, I also offer 1:1 tutoring sessions where they can meet with me live 1:1 to discuss any needs along the way. I offer these sessions in 25-, 55-, and 85-minute long blocks.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to identify examples of various sets of numbers, including rational numbers, irrational numbers, integers, whole numbers, natural numbers, even numbers, odd numbers, prime numbers, and composite numbers.
Students will be able to properly set up and solve decimal addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division problems.

over 10 WeeksUnit 1: Integers
Lesson 1:
What is an Integer?
Let's dive into the fascinating world of integers: uncovering the true essence of what an integer is, discovering the myriad of scenarios where integers come into play, and mastering the art of showcasing them on a number line.
Lesson 2:
Absolute Value and Opposites
We'll check out absolute value, the right notation, and what happens when negatives mix with absolute value.
Lesson 3:
Additive Inverses
We will investigate the first property of addition: additive inverses.
Unit 2: Operations with Integers
Lesson 4:
Adding and Subtracting Integers
We will examine the interaction of positive and negative integers through addition and subtraction, employing an intuitive analogy of heroes versus villains.
Other Details
Pre-Requisites
Students should have completed coursework through 6th grade math.
Supply List
Please have paper and a writing utensil with you to work through problems and take notes as you progress through the course. It will also be helpful to have scratch paper when working through homework and assessments, as there may not always be enough room on the paper to go through all of your work on the printed homework/assessment for each problem.
3 files available upon enrollment
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
