This class is interactive, where I will break concepts down and check for understanding throughout the class. I scaffold and adjust my pacing to suit the needs of the students. I will use visuals, mnemonics, real-world examples, discussion, guided notes, and games to ensure a deep understanding. Student participation is expected. I strive to make learning fun and instill confidence in the student. My classroom is more than a place to learn conversions and formulas; it is a safe, supportive...

Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.Week 2Lesson 3Area & perimeter of polygonsIdentify and calculate the area and perimeter of figures and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.Lesson 4Area & perimeter of compound shapesIdentify and calculate the area and perimeter of figures and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.Week 3Lesson 5Measure anglesSolve real-world problems using angle measurements. Use facts about supplementary, complementary, vertical, and adjacent angles in a multi-step problem to write and solve simple equations for an unknown angle in a figure.Lesson 6CirclesIdentify parts of the circle. Calculate the area and circumference of circles and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.Week 4Lesson 7Similar figuresSolve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures, including computing actual lengths and areas from a scale drawing and reproducing a scale drawing at a different scale.Lesson 8Triangle inequality theoremProve whether three lines could make a triangle using the triangle inequality theorem. Focus on constructing triangles from three measures of angles or sides, noticing when the conditions determine a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle.Week 5Lesson 9Polygons on the coordinate planeAnswer questions about polygons based on ordered pairs on the coordinate plane.Lesson 10TransformationsIdentify and use the four transformations on the coordinate plane.Unit 2Solid GeometrySolid Geometry6 lessons3 WeeksWeek 6Lesson 11Classify solidsClassify solids and identify features of them.Lesson 12Identify nets & cross-sectionsIdentify nets by what solid they would make. Describe the two-dimensional figures that result from slicing three-dimensional figures, as in plane sections of right rectangular prisms and right rectangular pyramids.Week 7Lesson 13VolumeSolve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.Lesson 14VolumeSolve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, volume of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.Week 8Lesson 15Surface areaSolve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.Lesson 16Surface areaSolve real-world and mathematical problems involving area, surface area of two- and three-dimensional objects composed of triangles, quadrilaterals, polygons, cubes, and right prisms.
Students will solve problems involving scale drawings of geometric figures. Students will use formulas to solve real-world problems. Students will describe 2-D figures that result from slicing 3-D figures. Students will find volume and surface area with given formulas.
Homework Offered
I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.Assessments Offered
I will assess students in class based on their participation and homework (if they do their homework). Students will also have occasional quizzes. I will also provide a feedback report on each student at the end of the course. Please let me know if you would like a letter grade for this class.Grades Offered
Students should have a math journal to keep their notes in and solve example problems. No textbooks or workbooks are required.
My classroom is a safe, supportive environment where students learn communication, social, and problem-solving skills. Every child can succeed with guidance and encouragement. I am passionate about math. I know a lot of tricks and mnemonics to...
