This course is designed to provide seventh-grade students with a comprehensive understanding of essential concepts aligned with the DOE United States Standards. The curriculum aims to enhance students' problem-solving skills, critical thinking abilities, and reasoning through a variety of engaging activities, real-world applications, and collaborative projects. Math **Week 1: Rational Numbers and Exponents** - Understanding rational and irrational numbers - Comparing and ordering rational numbers - Operating with rational numbers (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) - Exponents and scientific notation - Square roots and cube roots - Real-world applications of rational numbers and exponents **Week 2: Expressions and Equations** - Simplifying algebraic expressions - Solving linear equations with one variable - Solving linear equations with two variables (graphically and algebraically) - Writing and solving equations and inequalities - Understanding systems of equations and inequalities - Applying algebraic concepts to real-life situations **Week 3: Functions** - Introducing functions and function notation - Analyzing and interpreting function graphs - Identifying linear vs. nonlinear functions - Representing proportional relationships - Calculating slope and y-intercept - Modeling real-world scenarios using functions **Week 4: Geometry** - Understanding the Pythagorean theorem and its applications - Exploring transformations (translations, reflections, rotations) - Properties of angles, triangles, and quadrilaterals - Calculating the volume and surface area of 3D shapes - Applying geometric concepts to solve problems **Week 5: Statistics and Probability** - Organizing and interpreting data using various types of graphs - Measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode) - Analyzing data distribution and spread - Introduction to probability concepts - Calculating experimental and theoretical probabilities - Using probability to solve real-world problems **Week 6: Linear Relationships and Functions** - Defining linear relationships and proportional reasoning - Writing linear equations from tables and graphs - Determining the slope and y-intercept of a linear equation - Interpreting rate of change and initial value - Constructing and interpreting scatter plots - Connecting linear functions to real-life contexts **Week 7: Transformational Geometry and Congruence** - Understanding congruence and similarity in 2D shapes - Exploring rigid motions and their properties - Applying transformations to geometric figures - Identifying properties of congruent figures - Analyzing relationships between angles and lines in triangles **Week 8: Geometric Applications of Exponents** - Applying the laws of exponents to geometric situations - Understanding scientific notation in context - Solving problems involving volume and surface area using exponents - Analyzing exponential growth and decay in real-world scenarios **Assessment:** Assessment methods will include a combination of quizzes, tests, projects, and class participation. These assessments will gauge students' understanding of mathematical concepts, problem-solving skills, ability to apply learned concepts to real-world situations, and their capacity to communicate mathematical reasoning effectively.

Sources
I will be utilizing Nearpod and Canva to create my own lesson plans and learning materials for the students to follow along with. I have the educators premium Canva so I will be able to invite my students through Canva to do interactive activities and learning sessions, I will alternate between that and Nearpod which I utilize in the exact same way. I insert examples from both Ck-12 and IXL.com
Teacher expertise and credentials
Connecticut Teaching Certificate in Secondary Education
Bachelor's Degree in English from State University of New York at Buffalo
I have a Masters degree in educational leadership and I have been teaching for 19 years. I have teaching and tutoring students in math for the past 7 years. I have a lot of experience with teaching math in grades six through eight. Even though my profile is new on Outschool, I have been teaching into doing math on out school for organizations for the past two years.
