In this 10-week class, students will learn the fundamentals and develop the skills needed to create well-written five-paragraph essays on multiple subjects and genres. Topics we will cover include... BASIC ESSAY STRUCTURE: Basic essay structure includes an introduction, a body, and a conclusion. The introduction should grab the reader's attention and state the thesis statement. The body should support the thesis statement with evidence from the text. The conclusion should restate the thesis statement and summarize the main points of the essay. TYPES OF ESSAYS: There are many different types of essays, including narrative essays, informative essays, persuasive essays, and argumentative essays. Each type has its own unique structure and purpose. We will devote at least two weeks to each type. WRITING PROCESS: The series of steps that writers follow to create a well-written essay, such as outlining, drafting, revising, editing, and proofreading. OTHER SKILLS INCORPORATED: vocabulary, word choice, the importance of details, and description. Each class will be a combination of traditional lectures and writing workshops. Teacher expertise and credentials
I've been a storyteller all my life but doing it professionally for the past two decades as a published author, ghostwriter, screenwriter, editor, and creativity coach. I love teaching writers to stretch their imaginations as well as strengthen/develop writing skills with fun exercises and challenges that utilize all five senses to spark inspiration and creativity. I encourage writers to try new styles and genres and help them learn to be keen observers with a witty vocabulary so they become better writers in the future.
