In this ongoing course, students will engage in 6th grade writing curriculum focusing on parts of speech, sentences, punctuation, paragraphs, narratives, personal narratives, RACE response, essay writing, research writing.

This 6th grade writing curriculum covers important writing skills including parts of speech (nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, conjunctions, prepositions, interjections), sentences (fragment vs. complete), paragraphs, RACE response, essay writing (persuasive and expository) and research writing. *Students will improve their sentence structure by utilizing parts of speech to recognize fragments. *Students will practice using proper paragraph and essay structure through writing assignments. *Students will locate research information by using key words and credible sources. *Students will implement text evidence in writing by making written connections to claims. *Students will write effective thesis statements by completing practice activities. *Students will demonstrate ability to incorporate proper punctuation by writing paragraphs and essays. *Students will use the writing process (brainstorm, outline, rough draft, edit/revise) by writing essays
I'm a certified English teacher and Reading Specialist with 15 years of teaching experience. I've taught 6th grade for four years and wrote curricula for multiple school districts and independently taught students.
Homework Offered
Students will complete writing assignments, play educational games, take Blooket quizzes, etc., depending on the topic.1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
