Class Experience

This course is meant to follow “#5 Piano Lessons” We will build on the knowledge learned in the previous classes. Over the course of this 8 week period the students will learn and build upon their skills at their own pace.
In this course students will get more familiar with reading sheet music by sight, learn some new hand placements, learn more about basic time signatures, some other note values, playing multiple notes at the same time and improve their ability to move around on the keyboard.
I ask my students to commit to practicing every song at least 3 times per day. Students MUST have a keyboard or piano to make this class worthwhile.
A brief overview of my plan for this course is as follows -
Week One
Introduce the song "Bingo"
Students get to play a multi paged song and learn to play and then clap for the "rests" in this song.

Week Two
Learn the song "The Ash Grove"
In this song students are introduced to a new way repeat signs can be used.

Week Three
A version of "Chopsticks" is introduced with one hand playing two notes throughout the song.
This helps reinforce coordination as well as sight note-reading skills.

Week Four
A different arrangement of "Chopsticks" is introduced
In this version students practice with an eighth note rhythm that is tricky, but fun to play.

Week Five
"Blow Ye Winds" brings some new notes and hand movements to be learned.

Week Six
Just for a fun review of skills students have already developed we will learn "Found A Peanut".

Week Seven
Students will be introduced to the challenging song "Days of the Dinosaurs".
This song has it all! Both hands playing multiple notes, sharps, hands changing positions mid-song.

Week Eight
"Lake Pirates" is a nice song to end with. There are some not so familiar notes to review or learn.

All of this is subject to change - depending on the students level of comprehension. I do not want to rush through basics but also do like to move at a steady pace. The more the students practice outside of class the more productive the lessons will be!

*Please be on time! The class will be locked 10 minutes after class begins as per Outschool policy.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, I'm Hannah and I'm so happy you stopped by my profile! I am currently a homeschooling mom, and have been a music teacher for half my life (16 years - you do the math;).

Music has the ability to strengthen the connection beween the body and the brain to help them work together as a team, which is why I incorporate music into a lot of my classes.
The more pathways a student uses for learning something new, the more pathways they have for retrieval of the information. Because of this, I utilize multisensory techniques.

My teaching style is "I tell you, you tell me, you show me".
As per one of my favorite quotes - "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."

I offer piano lessons for beginners and intermediate learners. My classes are thorough and time efficient, but I also work at the students pace to be sure they are grasping the concepts as we move along.
