Homework
1 hour per week. Students will be given several OPTIONAL activities to complete outside of class. While these are optional activities, completing them will only reinforce the lesson and aid in learning.
Assessment
I will offer a weekly assessment through Google Forms.

Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 6
In this ongoing course, students will practice a new spelling/phonics pattern each week to strengthen their reading, writing and vocabulary skills. This class will meet 1 day a week.  During the live meeting, students will learn the new spelling/phonics pattern of the week as well as the meanings and how to use each word. Students will be given extra practice and a reading passage that uses the new spelling words.  If you would like your child to take a spelling/phonics test, I will send that through Google Forms.  I am providing a list of the skills that will be covered in this class by week.

Week 1 September 11-short and long "a" vowel sounds spelled using a, ai, eigh, a-e, ay, ea, ei, ey
Week 2 September 18-short and long "e" vowel sounds spelled using e, e-e, ee, ea, ei, ey, i, ie, y
Week 3 September 25-short and long "o" vowel sounds spelled using o, oe, oa, ow, o-e
Week 4 October 2-short and long "i" vowel sounds spelled using i, ie, i-e, igh, y
Week 5 October 9-short and long "u" vowel sounds spelled using u, ue, u-e, oo, ui, ou, ew, a, e
Week 6 October 16-words with double letters and /aw/ sound
Week 7 October 23-words with -ed, -ing, -er, and  -est
Week 8 October 30-compound words
Week 9 November 6- words with /ur/ sound
Week 10 November 13-words with /cher/ and /zher/ sounds
***November 20th-26th Fall Break
Week 11 November 27-words with /f/ sound spell f, gh, ph, and ff and words with /oi/ spelled oi and oy
Week 12 December 4-words with silent letters
Week 13 December 11-words with the schwa sound and r-controlled vowel sounds
Week 14 December 18-homophones
***December 25th-January 7th Winter Break
Week 15 January 8-words ending in -sion, -tion, -cian
Week 16 January 15-easily confused spellings and distinguish meanings between homophones
Week 17 January 22-words ending in -ent and -ant
Week 18 January 29-words with the /sh/ sound
Week 19 February 5-words with suffixes -able, -ible, -ous
Week 20 February 12-plural form of words
Week 21 February 19-words with suffixes -ment, -ful, -less
Week 22 February 26-words with prefixes un-, im-, in-, under-
Week 23 March 4-words with geo, act, bio, port, and graph
Week 24 March 11-words to replace the overused word "said"
Week 25 March 18-words with suffixes -ship, -ancy, -ly, -en

Week 26 April 1-words with prefixes mis-, dis-, re-, non-, anti-
Week 27 April 8- spell adjectives
Week 28 April 15-words with prefixes bi-, tri-, uni-, semi-, cent-

Week 30 April 29-spell vocabulary words
Learning Goals
R.F.3.A- Students will use combined knowledge of all letter-sound correspondences, syllabication patterns, and morphology (e.g., roots and affixes) to read accurately unfamiliar multisyllabic words in context and out of context.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I will use websites like Room Recess, Education.com, and Kahoot for spelling/phonics games and practice. Nearpod will be used for reinforcing lessons like prefixes and suffixes. Google Forms will be used to assess the students spelling/phonics skills.
Supply List
The learner will need to print out weekly materials that will be sent in advance of the class.
