Class Experience

US Grade 7
In this ongoing class, middle schoolers will find a relaxed, safe, fun space in which to chat with each other and play popular games while they practice important basic math skills! Each week I will provide a general topic or questions with engaging prompts to get the conversation going, but a lot will be student driven based on interest. I will then relate the week’s theme to a specific key math skill through a short 2-3 minute mini-lesson. Students will get to practice that week’s math skill in one or more exciting, interactive, fast-paced math games! We will play at least one Blooket or Gimkit game each week!

Parental Guidance
We will be playing age-appropriate fast-paced, competitive games. Some games will have timers in order to focus on fact fluency, and some have elements in which players can sabotage each other in small ways. I will make sure these are played in light-hearted, respectful and fun way, but this class may not be the best fit for learners sensitive to or anxious about these types of games. We will be using the third-party websites listed below that provide interactive, fun opportunities for building mastery and fluency of math concepts and skills: (each week) Blooket: Students love playing these fun, fast-paced games with math question banks that I am able to create and taylor to the needs of the class. The report I see after each game serves as a great informal assessment. I will post a direct link in the Zoom chat, students will simply enter their first name of nickname and begin playing the game. *No account or personal information needed (some weeks) Google Jamboard: A great interactive tool for collaborative learning and sharing ideas. I will send a direct link in the Zoom chat that will allow students to enter directly into the specific Jamboard without any kind of sign-up * No account or personal information needed (some weeks) Google Slides: I will usually use Google Slides to present lessons through the screen share function, but may at times give students the link for activities or games that I have created. *No account or personal information needed
