Weekly spelling class for fifth-grade level spellers focusing on phonemic awareness. Learners have the opportunity to master the spellings of up to 30 new words each week using multi-syllable word attack skills and spelling rules.

🌟 Instruction follows the Phono-Graphix method for teaching reading and spelling which was developed with the dyslexic learner in mind. The Phono-Graphix method is very similar to Orton-Gillingham. 🌟 This class meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays each week. Due to the nature of the weekly activities, it is best to start this class on a Monday. 📝 Students will be assigned a weekly spelling list of 25 words at the beginning of each week. 1. Students will learn the proper spellings of fifth-grade-level words and their usage in the English language. 2. Special focus on phonemic awareness, homophones, and words that just don't fit the "rules".
I am a state-certified Elementary Teacher who has become aware of the absence of structured spelling instruction in schools today. In my private reading tutoring practice, I have watched my students become strong and independent spellers by using my approach.
Homework Offered
Homework is assigned at the end of the first and second class meetings to practice spelling the word list. Worksheets will need to be printed.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
On the third live class day, we will take a spelling test and check our work.Grades Offered
Students will only need lined writing paper and a pencil for the first and third lessons each week. Students will need either colored pencils or fine-tipped markers and lined or unlined paper for the second live class meeting. Any other documents needed will be found in the classroom for downloading and/or printing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
