includedClass Experience
US Grade 5
This is a 5th Grade ongoing Math class where students can choose which classes to attend without committing to a full semester. It is geared for students entering 5th grade. It contains all the major math topics a fifth grader needs. Students should be proficient at the 4th grade math level (e.g. arithmetic and fractions) before taking these classes. Students should have prior knowledge on the individual classes they plan to choose from. This class will meet twice a week on an ongoing basis throughout the school year. In the first class I will have everyone introduce themselves, then I will tell everyone how the class will operate and what my expectations are. Please Note: if you are joining the class after the class has started, please take a look at the schedule below and make sure you are proficient at the topics before the class you will be joining. We will not have time to review any materials covered during previous classes as each class is a different topic. Math is built on steps. If you miss an earlier step, you can stumble in a future topic. You can join at any time as every week will be a separate topic from previous classes. So, you can join this class as a full 5th grade math curriculum or you can join during a week we are doing a topic you might need a refresher on and you can unsubscribe at any time. You will be charged weekly and can subscribe and unsubscribe at any time. You just need to unsubscribe by Saturday to not get charged for the following week. The subscription renewals are charged every Sunday for the following week. You can take this class every week or drop in on certain topics. This class is a full year of 5th Grade Math if you start the class from the first day. We will be using a website ‘Classkick’ for our classes. You will not need to sign up for an account. I will provide a link at the beginning of each class. When you click on the link, it will ask you to put in a name. You will only need to put in the students first name so that I can identify their work. Classkick is an interactive site where students can work on their math problems on the screen and at the same time, I (the teacher) will be able to see what they are doing on their end on my own screen. Each class assignment is a PDF that is uploaded into Classkick. We will not be watching any videos or using any reference websites during class. To be Coppa Compliant, the class assignment will only be accessible during our class. Once the class ends, you will no longer have access to the lesson. I will post a PDF of the answers to the problems we do in class in the Outschool Classroom for students who want to review the work. I post the answer keys at the end of each week. This is not a graded class but I will be providing optional homework after each class for those who want/need extra practice. Optional homework assignments will be posted in the Outschool Classroom once a week. I will post the assignments and the answer keys so you can check your work when you are done with the assignments. Although homework is not sent in for grading, please feel free to message me on Outschool Messages at any time with questions about the optional homework or any topics we cover in class so that you don’t fall behind. The optional homework will be in the form of a PDF. You will need to print it, do the work, and check your answers with the provided answer keys. There are no tests in this class. No grades will be provided. Optional homework is highly recommended for you to master the topics learned in class. All states and countries have their own requirements so please check your requirements to make sure the topics covered in this class is sufficient. All optional homework assignments, homework answer keys, and classwork answer keys will be posted in the Outschool Classroom at the end of the week. I will provide you with a link to a shared Google Drive folder where all the homework assignments and answer keys will be uploaded to. 5th Grade Math Schedule of Topics for 2024-2025 School Year: Tues/Thurs Class: Week 1 (Oct 1-3): Lesson 1-2: Place Values and Decimals and Positive and Negative Numbers Week 2 (Oct 8-10): Lesson 3-4: Addition and Subtraction Week 3 (Oct 15-17): Lesson 5-6: Multiplication to 3-Digits and Factor Trees and Exponents Week 4 (Oct 22-24): Lesson 7-8: Geometry: Lines & Angles (Oct 29-31): No Classes Week 5 (Nov 5-7): Lesson 9-10: Division: 1-Digit Divisors (Nov 12-14): No Classes Week 6 (Nov 19-21): Lesson 11-12: Fractions (Nov 26-28): No Classes Week 7 (Dec 3-5): Lesson 13-14: Division: 2-Digit Divisors Week 8 (Dec 10-12): Lesson 15-16: Time and Customary Measurement Week 9 (Dec 17-19): Lesson 17-18: Fractions: Addition and Subtraction (Dec 24-26): No Classes (Dec 31-Jan 2): No Classes (Jan 7-9): No Classes Week 10 (Jan 14-16): Lesson 19-20: Equations Week 11 (Jan 21-23): Lesson 21-22: Geometry: Perimeter & Area (Jan 28-30): No Classes Week 12 (Feb 4-6): Lesson 23-24: Fractions: Multiplication & Fractions: Division Week 13 (Feb 11-13): Lesson 25-26: Decimals: Multiplication & Decimals: Division (Feb 18-20): No Classes Week 14 (Feb 25-27): Lesson 27-28: Geometry: Surface Area & Volume Week 15 (Mar 3-6): Lesson 29-30: Metric Measurements Week 16 (Mar 11-13): Lesson 31-32: Ratios, Rates, & Percents Week 17 (Mar 18-20): Lesson 33-34: Integers Week 18 (Mar 25-27): Lesson 35-36: Data & Graphs ================================================================= **Please Note: On the weeks that we don’t meet, you do not need to unsubscribe.
