US Grade 5
This course is part 1 of my 5th Grade English Language Arts Semester class, which has been split into three parts for convenience. Each part makes up the whole Semester, but need not be taken in order, you also have the option to also only enrol for the part your learner requires. This class will meet once a week for 4 weeks with the following learning aims: Week 1 - Mystery texts comprehension This class will read a teacher made Mystery themed short story and engage in comprehension exercises with a focus on reading fluency, knowledge of root words, prefixes & suffixes (morphology & etymology) Week 2 : 'Code-Cracking for Beginners' Direct Speech Punctuation Link your spelling, punctuation and grammar in this activity. Speech punctuation refers to the use of inverted commas to mark direct speech in a text. Week 3: Villainous Verses Poetry Poetry reading and analysis. This class provides an opportunity to read across types of fiction and introduces poetry features and devices. This class will read ''Humpty Dumpty -The Truth' and study figurative language. Week 4 : Introduction to Proofreading This class focuses on how to check and edit your own writing. Editing writing is a skill for life and will reduce the risk of mistakes in future exams. The difference between editing and revision. This class is available camp style, twice weekly and once weekly.
