Class Experience

US Grade 6
Intermediate - Advanced Level
Welcome to second semester!! If you are signing up in January or after- this is second semester! We will have a grammar topic most weeks. We will begin our geography exploration! We will explore all seven continents and learn about cultures in different countries! I am excited for this unit! We will incorporate several reading standards during this unit as well.

This class will be a wonderful combination of reading, grammar, science, and world geography standards. Fifth and Sixth grade reading/grammar standards are very similar, I will introduce in a way that everyone can understand and dive deeper into the sixth grade level. Students will need to be able to be independent and motivated for this class. ***If you have been in my previous 4th and 5th grade classes, this will be very different because much of the project work will be done outside of class - we won't have a lot of work time in class! There will be several opportunities for interest led learning within certain topics! You will be given the assignment on Monday and we will check in on Thursday to see how you are doing and ask questions - but you will finish the project/writing/reading outside of class. We will take it slow and make sure everyone understands!
We will begin each class with that weeks grammar topic. Then we will alternate weeks with a different reading, science or geography topic, we will also incorporate reading standards during the science and geography lessons. During the live classes we will learn about a topic, then students will be given instructions to complete an assignment, reading, or project to complete on our days off. All projects will be able to be modified to fit the materials you have or are willing to get at home. I am excited about this class because it gives students a change to show their creative side, and give students a chance to get to know each other on a different level. Students will learn through lecture, videos, games, partner work and hands on activities.
Student expectations:
I expect all students to be respectful to everyone in class, wait their turn to talk, pay attention, work hard and have fun! I love taking time to talk to everyone before class begins, I often give them time to share something they did that weekend, or do a short would you rather to help build relationships in the class. We will often work in partners and small groups - I expect all students to work with their partners in a kind, helpful and encouraging way.
