Join us each week as we learn to make gourmet giant bakeshop cookies. This class is great for the budding baker as well as entrepreneurs consider opening their own shop down the road. By the end of the year students will have a binder of recipes that cover all seasons. Each week students will make one gourmet cookie in class. Teacher will use a power point with visuals to walk students through each step and on many occasions will join students in the kitchen. Learners will receive a handout a week before class begins that outlines all ingredients, equipment and steps. When there is extra time during cooling, we will focus on new skills. New class begins in September. Learning Needs
This class is inclusive, however please contact me with how I can best serve your student. Parental/Guardian supervision is suggested.
Parental Guidance
Warning: Please review each recipe in detail. Possible allergens include: milk, nuts, wheat, dairy, eggs, or soy. Alternative recipes or ideas can be provided if you contact the instructor ahead of time. Please give at least three days notice. You can also tailor your recipe to your own tastes.
Students will be working with stovetop, oven, knives and kitchen equipment. Please make sure your learner knows how to use their kitchen appliances and knives safely. I have no problem with parents/guardians baking with their students. I prefer an adult in the house when we cook just in case of emergencies.
Supply List
A week before each class students will receive ingredients and directions on a word document. An Oven, Stove, Baking Sheets, Bowls, Mixer (standing or handheld is helpful, but whisk can be used). Containers to store our creations.
1 file available upon enrollment
Sources
I use tried and true recipes from many sources including the Culinary Institute of America, William Sonoma and many other sources.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Doctoral Degree from State University of Buffalo School of Law
My teaching experience is varied. I grew up with a family that ran two restaurants, so food preparation just is part of my identity, it is something I love. I am also a Professor, attorney, high school instructor and mother of seven. I have taught everything from pre-k to Graduate School and have both homeschooled/unschooled and chosen traditional routes for my children. I take students and their families overseas for culture excursion tours and have enjoyed cooking classes around the world. I have decided to teach this class simply for my love of baking, and to share something I am passionate about.
