Class Experience
Participants in 5 Paragraph Essay: Individual Tutoring will use something the learner enjoys as the inspiration in writing. Students will learn about paragraph structures, creating a thesis, asking questions to generate ideas, and the elements of the 5 paragraph essay. Students will have the opportunity to be fully engaged through short lessons, Power Point slides, individual sharing, and discussion with the teacher. Students will complete a five paragraph essay. Session Topics 1. Choosing Topics That Inspire 2. Writing Great Body Paragraphs 3. Attention Grabbing Openings 4. Closing With Confidence Session Specifics Free write about something you enjoy, such as a favorite video game or sport. Discover what makes it your favorite, and choose the most important qualities to write about. Talk about the writing process, choose main topics that can be supported, and add supportive details in the body paragraphs. Write a thesis statement, and connect the thesis statement to the body paragraphs. Discuss first impressions and how they relate to writing an opening paragraph. Talk about various types of hooks that will grab the attention of your reader. Write a hook for your essay and refine the thesis. Discuss how adding paper and a bow turns a box into a gift and how that relates to the conclusion. Discuss restating your thesis, how to summarize your body paragraphs, and types of closing thoughts. Put together all the elements in the 5 paragraph essay format. Edit/Review and submit final essay for teacher feedback.

Students will improve their understanding of paragraph structures, creating a thesis, generating ideas that flow, and the elements of the 5 paragraph essay.

Parental Guidance
All ages and abilities are welcome in this course. However, please be advised that some children will need parental support in regards to attention during class time, reading the instructions, and/or writing (as needed). Students will be required to post their writing pieces in the classroom for teacher feedback 48 hours prior to the next class.

I am a home educator with over 13 years of teaching experience with ages preschool to 12th grade. Specifically, I have taught multiple years of Middle School and High School English (including composition, literature, and grammar). Currently, I teach an intermediate and an advanced high school level composition/literature course at our area homeschool cooperative.
It is my belief that even the most reluctant writers can be unlocked with the right guidance and prompting. I have a college sophomore on the autism spectrum and a high school senior with ADHD.
