What's included
1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
During our time together, we will listen to a popular story book (a new story each week), encouraging and sharing what successful reading fluency looks like, and engage in conversations that are necessary to create discussions for summary creations. As we read/listen to each book together, we'll stop along the way as we'll discuss various reading strategies (make connections, context clues, etc). After our story, we will focus on the "how" of creating a book summary. We'll walk through the beginning, middle, and end, all while going back through the book to show support as to how students determined their answers. Week 1: Crysanthemum Week 2: A Pocket for Corduroy Week 3: Where the Wild Things Are Week 4: Koala Lou Week 5: Sylvester and the Magic Pebble Weeks to follow: TBA
Learning Goals
Students will understand that writing a summary begins with an introductory sentence that states the text's title, author and main point of the text as they see it. Students will be taught that a summary is written in their own words and only contains only the ideas of the original text.

As an educator, I've always encouraged reading within my classroom and watching the excitement, confidence, and learning success that always takes place when students find books that suit their interests.
