Class Experience

US Grade 4
This class is taught in a self-paced (flexible) format. There are no live meetings. 

Learners will watch a mini-lesson video (5-10 minutes) that will teach the subject of the week. After watching the instructional video, learners will complete a worksheet (2-3 pages) about the lesson of the week. The worksheet should take 20-40 minutes to complete. I will provide a complete step-by-step instructional video for the entire worksheet. You can choose to watch the entire video or skip around to certain questions for extra help or to check your own work. I will be available to answer questions via message if needed.

This class covers an entire year of 4th grade math and is broken into 4 parts. Parts can be taken in any order or simultaneously.
Part 1 - multiplication and division
Part 2 - geometry, multiples, factors, and decimals
Part 3 - fractions
Part 4 (This class) - word problems, operations, measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode)

This class will focus on teaching strategies for completing word problems; operations orders, rules, and inequalities; and measures of central tendency like mean, median, mode, and range. 

Part 4 Weekly Schedule:
Week 1: multiplication word problems
Week 2: division word problems
Week 3: multiplication & division word problems
Week 4: multi-step word problems
Week 5: multiple operations 
Week 6: Divisibility rules
Week 7: Choose numbers with a particular sum, difference, product, or quotient
Week 8: variable expressions with all operations
Week 9: inequalities with operations
Week 10: find mode & mean
Week 11: find median & range
Week 12: Multiply 3 numbers
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of 4th grade level math including strategies for completing multiplication and division word problems, rules and orders for the four operations, inequality rules, and measures of central tendency.

Multiplication Word Problems
 Students will learn key words and how to solve multiplication word problems. 
Lesson 2:
Division Word Problems
 Students will learn key words and how to solve division word problems. 
Lesson 3:
Multiplication & Division Word Problems
 Students will learn to differentiate between multiplication and division within a word problem by reading the question carefully. 
Lesson 4:
Multi-Step Word Problems
 Students will learn how to complete a multi-step word problem.

Supply List
A two-three page printable worksheet will be provided each week. Students can print the worksheet, write on them electronically using a pdf writer, or write the problems on a separate piece of paper.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
