Teacher expertise and credentials
Welcome to Level Up Literacy and Math Lab, where literacy science meets fun and Elementary and Middle School Math are made easy!
Literacy Classes:
Here we give dynamic, engaging, and personal Literacy classes. Literacy is a life skill, not just a learning objective, a box to check, or even a task that can be evaluated with a letter grade. It is the foundation for a whole world of knowledge and a lifetime of learning. Our brains are wired for language, connection, and education, so reading comes naturally and is even “easy” for some. Others, they need a little support and guidance. That’s where we come in! Every student deserves to feel confident in their reading ability and develop their interests with the knowledge that reading can unlock. We aim to blend the science of reading with fun and real-world experiences to reach all students who love to be challenged and those who need a little extra support to get there!
Learning to read, however, is only the beginning! We have worked hard to comb through all of the latest research and timeless practices out there to help students just like your finally feel confident reading, find topics that interest them, and inspire them to seek out new information.
We not only help students learn to read but to become curious learners, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and empathetic humans. Along the way we read passages and stories about myths, fables, and diverse history from the americas and around the world.
We hope to break the barriers and restrictions that can come with classroom learning for so many students and give families the power to educate their children in the way they always dreamed!
Come here for all Literacy, Reading, and Writing classes from Pre-K to Secondary!
My name is Alix, and I began creating these special Literacy lessons in 2020. I was hoping to find a way to blend the latest science-based research with fun games and real-world applications that helped students become confident readers, especially those who felt nothing else was working for them. I have grown from a one-teacher operation to a multi-teacher organization with like-minded educators.
We use a program/system based on Orton-Gillingham's multi-sensory approaches and other research-based techniques proven to show results for all learners, especially those struggling. We work to stay up-to-date with the latest studies to provide the best resources and support for our students. Our materials and lessons are continuously updated. Each class is designed to target all 6 Key Components of Literacy in a multisensory and holistic manner to build a strong foundation while making connections with new friends around the world and having fun! For us, it is essential that students feel comfortable in class, have fun, and that their curiosity Learning to read and write (like learning a new language) is all about trial and error, making mistakes, self-correction, and perseverance! Every student needs a safe and comfortable environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and be themselves. First and foremost, we aim to create a safe space for students to grow, explore, and connect with the materials we read and each other.
In every class of every level, we will cover Phonological Awareness, Phonics, Comprehension, Fluency, Vocabulary, and Writing--the six foundational pillars of Literacy.
I strongly suggest registering for a class that fits your child's needs rather than based on Grade Level, but for reference, each course includes the Grade Level correlation. If you have any questions or concerns, especially about placement or scheduling, please send me a message :)
