Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This course is going to cover concepts that are in 4th and 5th grade math. We will going over multi-digit multiplication, long division, and fractions. Please refer to the syllabus for more information on the break down of the each session within this course. Each class will start with a warm up. This will lead us into the lesson for the day. During the lesson, students will participate in guided practice to help them learn the concept and then it will transition to an independent practice. Once all students have completed the independent practice, we will review. To end class, students will work together to explain how I should solve one last problem. This will allow students to practice explaining how to solve math problems to others that may need help. This practice has been beneficial for all my students because it is one thing to know how to complete the problem, it is another to give clear instructions on how to solve. My teaching style has always been organized and detailed. Over the last six years, I have seen students struggle because teachers skip steps themselves to get to the final answer. This tends to leave some behind and then struggling when the next concept comes along. I want students to ask questions and share what may be stumping them. Students will interact in a lecture forum with PowerPoint slides. This will allow them to focus on what matters and that is the math concept. The visuals will help learners that need it most.
Learning Goals
The goal is for students to apply their knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to new math concepts to round out their foundational skills. They will also apply tools and problem solving skills to word problems.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have taught the 5th grade Eureka math curriculum for 6 years and the 4th grade Eureka math curriculum for 2 years. This curriculum builds off of it self very well by spiraling back to the things students have learned in previous years and they are able to apply to the new information. This is a tough curriculum and it helps to have some assistance with the format and wording of questions. The experience I gained can help parents navigate what their child is learning.
